holga! // 2002-03-12

acupuncture this morning. so good. i love going in early, while i'm still sleepy and not-so-tense. it makes lying there so pleasant and dreamy. while i didn't get completely spaced out today, i did have a weird vision/thought. a big, old house, white, peeling paint, long front porch, surrounded by trees and orchard. pretty, but not taken care of. it's raining pretty hard, and i'm swooping down on the top of the house from the air. i see a little girl in a white slip sneak out the front door, run to the far end of the porch (and this is where it gets really clear), and she slips silently off the end, holding onto the railing, feet stretching to the ground. her feet land silently in the mud, and she runs off. she's getting wet from the rain, but she doesn't seem to care.

what the heck was that about?

and in real life, here's the big excitement of my week... my holga is here! for those who don't know, holga's are relatively shitty plastic cameras made somewhere in china. they cost about $15, but they're medium format, so they take those really cool square photos. they're also so crappy you can get some great effects with vignetting and light leaks and all that. the bunch of us who ordered them (shane, erik, mikesell, steve, arno, agen, and me) all got together in a dark room to learn how to load them correctly and how to tape them up so we get the best effects (shane knows everything). cool! while i know absolutely nothing about photography, i'm convinced this is going to be the beginning of some brilliant photography career.
