summary of said saturday afternoon, including pretty paper and a gay boy who likes boobs // 2002-04-07

yesterday was just about the best day ever. no lie. i didn't do everything on my list, but hey, it'd be boring if i planned everything, no?

on the #10 downtown there were many, many people talking on their cell phones. what the? since when is it cool to blab away on your cell phone on the bus? bleh. i got off on 1st and went to ped and looked at shoes i can't afford, then went to watson and kennedy and bought two push pins that say "yes" and "no". (don't worry, i have plans for them). i went to the best paper store in the world, de medici ming. oooh. everything in this stores is gorgeous. and i love paper like you wouldn't believe. at de medici ming i bought two peices of hand-printed paper from india, a tiny moleskine notebook with grid paper and one of the elastic straps that keeps it closed when your'e not using it, pink ribbon with yellow edging, and orange ribbon with yellow edging, and three japanese tin buttons in various bug shapes.

then i walked up to the market, where i saw a guy speaking chinese into a walkie talkie. hmm, that seems like a reoccuring thing: men speaking foreign languages into tiny technical devices. i stopped by the donut place, but the line was too long, and the sweet smell actually made me feel ill, so i skipped it. plus, they always harrass me there, and i wasn't up for it.

i waded my way through the market (and i don't use the lame metaphor loosely--boy was it packed yesterday!), and tried to find some ranunculuses (or is it ranunculi?), but there was only one little, sad bunch. i should have been like charlie brown with the christmas tree and rescued that bunch of flowers but it made me too sad.

i went down to the comic store in the market and got love & rockets #11 for arno (can you believe he traded me his dreamcast for a comic??), and i picked up some tintin for myself, and the guy at the counter commented on my "eclectic" tastes. why do they always comment on my purchases there?

then i got the itch to go into market optical and see if they had any new glasses, and this awesome guy, seth, helped me out. boy, was he fun. he'd put some glasses on me and decide right away whether he liked them or not. i wasn't really in there to buy any, but he put the greatest pair of glasses on me that i knew were the ones. i was noodling, and he told me these were the last pair because it was an older model. yikes! he was too nice to pull a lame line like that and not mean it, so i decided to get them. uh oh. as if i have money to spend on expensive glasses. i am to glasses what carrie is to shoes (that's a sex & the city reference). don't worry, i'll post a picture of them as soon as they're mine!

anyway, as i was paying for them, seth noticed the picture of me and my friends eli and meredith in my wallet that looks a little obscene. not to mention to sticker i made with a dymo that says "pussy" right above it. i explained how much i liked the word "pussy" and how i think it's just about one of the funniest words ever and he agreed and we laughed for a long time. then he told me how he thinks breasts are really, really funny, and how he's, like, obsessed with breasts, which is funny to him since he's clearly gay. he told me that when his parents come to visit he has to take down all of his breast posters and breast books and salt and pepper shakers. i didn't ask him, "what, you don't want your parents to think you might be straight?" ha ha.

ok, here's the rest of my day in short, since i'm rambling, rambling. went to the park at the market and took pictures of the freeway and the puget sound, walked up to shorties, had a pabst and a veggie dog with onions and relish and mustard, and played a game of ms. pacman. mmmm. went to zanadu and bought even more comics, but i think the girl who works there really likes me. perused the stranger for movie times, then went back downtown and saw the panic room. yikes. what was i thinking? i had to sleep at home alone last night for the first time in way too long. folks, i hate sleeping alone at home. i panic and go nuts! aside from that, the movie was alright.

finally went back home, rented some videos--bringing up baby, breakfast at tiffany's, and sex & the city--got in the bath and watched sex & the city from the tub (words can't describe how great this is). ordered pizza, watched more movies, and started to fall asleep. i got scared so i took some of that ativan and i was knocked out almost instantly! it's great! not a moment of panic! ativan is my saviour!

la la la la. that's it for me. i'm eating strawberry pancakes (mmm), drinking some coffee, and listening to prairie home companion. it's the joke episode!

what do scientists do when they need to circumcize a whale?

send down four skin divers!

(you should probably say it out loud for it to be funny.)
