who knows the difference between red and white wine? // 2002-08-23

it's funny, i'm all tipsy from a work meeting, where we drank wine and talked about our week (incidentally, there was an article last week in the new yorker by calvin trillin about how people actually can't taste the difference between red and white wine when they're served at the same temperature, but i had a glass of each and even though the white was chilled, i swear i could tell one from the other just by taste... or maybe that's the tipsy talking), and now what i really want to do right now is go home and bake something or cook a nice big dinner. but i won't, i'm sure. i'm going to the Y to lift weights, even though my favorite late morning asian ladies won't be there. it'll be me and the after work crowd, which sounds icky, so going home to knead bread sounds far more enjoyable. the work thing was nice, though. the meeting wound down and most people went home and it was down to me, arno, steveo, aj, and betsy, and i was happy because these are my favorite people i work with, and arno showed us a cool trick with wine corks and aj and i made whistling sounds with japanese candy and i thought that maybe my job wasn't all bad after all.
