the alibi room makes one of the best vodka gimlets in seattle. i usually drink them on the rocks, but this night (back in 2000, i think) i was drinking them straight up because i was with my friend steve celebrating his move to seattle and that's how he likes them. this picture is excellent because i look completely trashed, but i don't think i was.

this was a delicious drink i got at chez shea in the market one summer afternoon. the bartender made it special for me, a perfect pear. it was vodka, pear nectar, with a twist of pear resting on the lip of the glass. it was so delicious i remember it to this day.

machiavelli also makes super delicious, and less sweet, vodka gimlets. this one is one of the many i've had there, and i have no idea when i took this picture. probably in 1999 or 2000.

and speaking of gimlets, does anyone have any idea what the expression "gimlet-eyed" means?
