soy cocoa, kale, grilled cheese, honey and donuts // 2003-04-13

i just finished my taxes. i used turbotax this year, so it was easy as pie, though my filing suddenly got trickier. bleh. so i made myself some hot soy chocolate with organic chocolate to feel better. also, i now have to do homework, but i'm finding all this chemistry suddenly over my head so i'm putting it off.

on friday c and i went to a reading by lydia davis. to be perfectly honest, i hadn't heard of her and wasn't that excited about going since book readings often turn into snooty affairs with audience members asking faux intellectual questions that are really just dumb and make the author irritated. but the reading was fun! lydia davis is amazing! she read short stories that are probably really poems, but who cares what you call them when they're so charming. c and i laughed and laughed at the grouch and old mother playing scrabble. but sadly, the reading was followed by a "conversation" with stinky matthew stadler from the stranger. he asked more stupid questions than any stupid audience could even care to dream up. most of them were things like, "wow, that use of the emdash there was so powerful. why did you choose to use such forceful punctuation here?" maybe he thought he was being funny, but really, that's just not funny at all.

yesterday we made the unfortunate choice of seeing the good thief. i can't stand nick nolte, but i thought this movie would be different because heist movies are just so cool. i guess i was wrong. even if nick nolte was dipped in honey and coated with donuts, i still wouldn't like him. he's a hulking mass of bleh.

i'm going to make grilled cheese sandwiches and suateed kale with garlic and lemon for dinner tonight. it's going to be delicious.

(lastly, i don't want you to think my car isn't as wonderful as i imagined. it is wonderful! i want to drive everywhere now, even though it's getting to be lovely and spring and walking places is also pleasant. but going fast while driving a stick and listening to cds while your butt is toasty is better than words.)
