ibook road trip // 2003-05-21

i ordered a new computer the other day (my poor old powerbook wasn't cutting it anymore), and through the wondrous union of amazon and ups, i'm able to track its journey across the country.

it shipped out of harrisburg, PA on monday night and arrived in new stanton, PA on tuesday morning. it sat around in new stanton for a few hours before heading off to columbus, OH on tuesday afternoon. it arrived in columbus tuesday evening, but it didn't have a long time to take in the sights because it was shipped off to indianapolis, IL only one hour and 44 minutes later. it got in to indianapolis late in the evening, but then quickly headed out again, this time to hodgkins, IL, where it arrived (safely, i hope) in the wee hours of this morning. and now it's still hanging out in hodgkins, doing god knows what.

i'm simultaneously amazed by the efficiencies of the postal system (or, rather, ups) and completely mind-boggled by why one package would need to make so many stops between harrisburg, PA and hodgkins, IL. any bets on how many more stops it'll make before arriving here at my office in seattle? hint: so far it's gone 837.56 miles between five cities and it has to go 2069.41 more miles before it gets to me. do some fancy math, and you have yourself a pretty good estimate!
