day/night out // 2003-07-30

today was absolutely jam-packed. it's like i actually had things to occupy my time. c and i woke up and went out to boeing surplus in the morning. i had never been there, and to be honest, i was a little disappointed. i thought i would be a mecca for old office furniture and other crazy cool things. there was a lot of old office furniture, but from the 80s, not the 60s, and it was all trashy. mostly the place was filled with old gears and drills and safety goggles and pictures of planes and office supplies and computer parts, all jumbled up in big bins. all those things are cool to look at, and take pictures of, but i didn't buy anything.

we had lunch at ballet and then i went out to meet emeraldtiger at greenlake. crazy! i was worried we wouldn't have anything to talk about, or that it would be awkward, since i'm shy and am not good around people i don't know, but it was fun and nice and we had a lovely time. thanks, m, for the nice time and good conversation.

then i picked arno up at work, and he took me to a free screening of a new jack black/richard linklater movie, the school of rock. fuckin' yeah! it was funny and smart and interesting and charming. we laughed consistently throughout. i don't think it's going to open for a while, but when it does everyone should go see it. steve, my ex, was there with his current girlfriend, which was fine with me, i'm all done with feeling awkward or possesive or wishing i could lock him up in a cage so that he can never date again. however, at one point we were talking before the movie, and steve was eating popcorn, and she said, oh, steve likes to eat a handful of popcorn with raisinettes... but then, you both knew that, right? and i thought, no i didn't know that. how strange that we dated for a year and i had no idea that he mixed his popcorn with his raisinettes. did i know you at all?

arno and i went out after the movie to mars bar to play sit-down ms pacman. my game was, like, way off, but arno kicked some major monster ass. i chalk it up to the heat. my skirt was sticking to my ass, and little dribblets of sweat kept beading up on my forehead. not ideal packy conditions, even at a sit-down machine.

thanks, arno, for the lovely evening and the awesome birthday gift. i got some beautiful and strange aya takano postcards.

and now i'm sleepy.
