grumpy old man // 2004-09-07

i got home tonight and took what was probably one of the top ten showers ever. seriously. it felt wonderful and decadent and just right. too much sun the past two days. i felt like i had to wash all that sun off. also, i swam in the puget sound last night and this morning (for this little, informal triathlon on bainbridge with my mom--holy crap! jumping off a 10-foot dock into freezing cold salt water is scary as fuck!), and i was absolutely coated in salt water.

c and i went to bumbershoot tonight, which in retrospect, may have been foolish. i haven't been since high school, and i forgot the main reason why i haven't been since, which is that i cannot tolerate crowds or the sun. we wanted to see fred armisen and demetri martin on the comedy stage, but we got there too late for fred armisen. so, we stood in line for nearly an hour to get in to see demetri martin (among other comics), in the sun that slowly but surely burned my already burnt scalp. about a half an hour into the line-waiting, someone from the festival came over and re-organized our already neat and orderly line into a giant mob. no lie! she honestly made us all bunch up together in this very tight space... like a ready-made mob!

okay, so demetri martin, tim young, and mary lynn rajskub were very, very funny and it made the journey almost worth it. oh wait. what's that? yes, we did pay $25 each to get in. $25! [insert grumpy old man voice here] when i was your age, bumbershoot cost $10 and you didn't have to get a stinking wrist band to see the bands you liked! now get off my lawn! [shaking fist]
