the lost dog of passover // 2005-04-16

there is a calendar above my desk, made by kids from bainbridge island to benefit an ongoing sister island exchange with ometepe island in nicaragua. it is hand-lettered and hand-drawn by the kids. in the april 30th square, it says "last day of passover," but because it is in an 11-year old's script, it looks to me like it says "lost dog of passover". and i keep glancing up at it and seeing "lost dog of passover" and thinking about some sad, forlorn dog wandering around the desert, hungry for some matzoh, brisket, bitter herbs, and charoset. oh, the poor lost dog of passover.

this afternoon c and i took a walk down to the capitol hill branch of the seattle public library to pick up a book on hold for him. it's been a while since i've been to the library and it was thrilling to think about all the books in there that i can check out for free! we also got some CDs, and it seems like a crime to check them out, take them home and rip them, and then bring them back. well, ok, technically it is a crime, but there's nothing stopping us from doing it (except my conscience).

tomorrow i am going to attempt to go to church as part of an empathy/compassion project for my counseling class at school. i picked attending church as the way to best test my compassion, since i'm generally irritated by most large organized religions and see them as the biggest problems in the world today. i'm not sure which church yet, but i'm hoping to find the most offensive church as possible so as to really test my compassion. wish me luck.
