i can now say i've made an effort to try to like both sufjan stevens and clap your hands say yeah, but i have to admit i find both of them super duper boring. which is even more disappointing from a band with such a spunky name like clap your hands say yeah.
anyhow, because i complain about school so much, c gave me the assignment yesterday to come home today and tell him about all the people who were nice to me. which is probably a good idea, but bitching about people is far more interesting than raving about them. right? but i succeeded in my assignment and will try again tomorrow. and in that spirit, what follows will be only about things i like...
what music do i like right now? pretty much everything on the wedding cd that oh-sweet-pea sent me a while back, but most especially that pretty song by gorky's zygotic mynci ("patio song")**, the only ones singing "the whole of the law" (plus, the yo la tengo cover is good), and "you you you you you" by the 6ths. i'm also digging the syreeta song, "harmour love", from the freaking awesome movie junebug and everything by pascal. oh, and i had this urge to listen to bette midler a while ago, so i've been listening to "do you want to dance?" on repeat for the last few weeks. it reminds me of being 10 and playing my mom's copy of the divine miss m over and over and making up dance routines. i should have been a gay man.
i am also loving the stack of magazines i picked up this afternoon: domino (everything in every issue is so fucking pretty!), elle decoration uk, gourmet, and the newest heeb with sarah silverman on the cover. mmmm... sarah silverman.
i also like the fact that i've been cooking more lately. sunday i made a big pot of potato leek soup and last night i sauteed some chard with tofu and mushrooms. i don't really know what's gottten into me. cooking just usually isn't my thing. if i'm going to spend time in the kitchen, i'd much rather be baking.
and a few more things:
**listening to gorky's zygotic mynci sing in welsh made me excited about wales again, so c reserved some learn welsh books from the library for me. i mean, how can you not like a language that has actual words like "bwrw" and "cymryd"? |
