puppies explained // 2005-02-12

i suppose writing about inside jokes that you only get is kind of silly. so, translation:

emil skoda is the psychologist on law & order that i adore so very much. my second favorite character to lennie briscoe (rip, sweet jerry orbach). he is played by the actor jk simmons. and jk happened to be on celebrity poker showdown the other night. see, c and i have taken to calling celebrity poker showdown "the puppy channel". this is based on a this american life episode from a while ago about a guy who wanted to start a tv channel that featured nothing but puppies, because he thought that tv needed some kind of channel that one could flip to in between watching other things. something that could entertain without being something you had to keep watching. and that's kind of what celebrity poker showdown is like. it's slightly mindless but vaguely engaging. and it always seems to be on. so c and i flip to when nothing else is one and it can be on the background without distracting us too terribly much.

so, when i wrote, "emil skoda is on the puppy channel!", that's actually what i meant. and now you know why it's only funny to me. for what it's worth, i laughed about it for so long, that i'm sure it made up for the fact that nobody else did.

i've been industrious the past couple of days, and now i'm tired. but that's probably due to the wine. i'm spending the evening reading the book for next week's book club (between rounds of board games with c), and i adore it. thanks, reddirtgirl, for picking such a lovely book/comic. i hope everyone else reads it so we can chat about paul and his crazy eyebrows.
